Stewart Investors Launches European (ex UK) Sustainability Strategy

Stewart Investors, an active, long-only equity specialist and global leader in sustainable investing, has launched the European (ex UK) Sustainability Strategy for professional clients in the UK.1

The strategy aims to achieve attractive long-term capital growth and contribute to a more sustainable future by investing in European companies, excluding the UK, from across the full market capitalisation spectrum.

Joint managers Lorna Logan and Rob Harley select companies with strong and competitive franchises, exceptional people and distinctive cultures, and resilient financials.

These companies are individually and collectively solving difficult problems, meeting vital needs, and helping society do more with less.

The strategy is expected to hold between 30 and 40 investments at any one time, with a high conviction approach, meaning that the top 10 positions are expected to make up 30-40% of total portfolio assets.

This follows the successful launch of the Stewart Investors European Sustainability Strategy in June 2021, which has the ability to invest in UK equities alongside those from the rest of Europe.

Stewart Investors is a pioneer in sustainable investing, having launched its first sustainability fund in 2005. The team aim to invest in, and proactively engage with, companies that that are helping make the world healthier, cleaner and more productive, while always avoiding companies that participate in harmful and controversial practices.

Lorna Logan, joint portfolio manager at Stewart Investors, said: “Europe is home to some of the highest quality and best sustainability companies in the world. They include world-leading businesses in sectors like healthcare, bioscience, clean energy, manufacturing and information technology.

“We select companies that have great sustainability tailwinds, exceptional management teams, and strong growth prospects, locally and internationally.”

Rob Harley, joint portfolio manager at Stewart Investors, said: “Stewart Investors has a strong track record of sustainable investing, built over the last seventeen years. As a team we have been investing in high-quality European equities for over a decade in our worldwide sustainability strategies.

“We invest for the long-term, and only in companies contributing to a more sustainable future. We take a bottom-up approach to analysing companies and building portfolios, which is the best way we know to deliver solid absolute returns for our clients”.
