Stewart Investors launches new Asia Pacific and Japan Sustainability VCC fund
LONDON, 13th August 2024: Stewart Investors, an active, long-only equity specialist focused on sustainable investing since 2005, has today expanded access to its Asia Pacific and Japan Sustainability strategy with a new fund (“the Fund”). The Fund is available as an EU-domiciled VCC in Europe, giving investors greater access to Stewart Investors’ sustainable investment expertise.
The strategy aims to achieve long-term capital growth by investing in a portfolio of 30-60 companies in the Asia Pacific region, including Japan that are helping to bring about a more sustainable future. Managed by Doug Ledingham, the strategy is focused on investing in high-quality companies with diversified cash flows that can grow in value over the long term.
By investing directly in Japan, investors can gain exposure to high-quality Japanese companies far earlier in their Asia growth journeys and access a greater pool of domestic companies with attractive growth opportunities. For investors, these firms are led by strong management teams and are well-positioned to contribute to, or benefit from, sustainable development.

Stewart Investors has an investing heritage dating back to 1988 and manages more than US$19 billion in assets (as at 30th June 2024). The team aims to achieve positive social and environmental outcomes by investing in and proactively engaging with companies that support sustainable development contributions, such as health and wellbeing, financial inclusion, reducing waste, water and energy efficiency, and renewable energy.
Last year, Stewart Investors received a Morningstar ESG Commitment Level of Leader, the highest designation in the assessment by Morningstar Inc. Stewart Investors is one of only eight asset managers out of 108 global firms evaluated to receive the Leader ranking by Morningstar.
