US political lobbying by the healthcare industry
Purpose: Stewart Investors would like to understand better how political lobbying by the healthcare industry operates in the US, who is involved and what risks they run.
(a) Explain the role played by industry groups such as PhRMA and BIO and others, including their access and different points of contact and influence with the political and executive machine.
(b) Identify which companies are directly and indirectly involved in such lobbying, both in terms of resources and funding.
(c) Provide examples of how and when industry groups and a group of companies (provided by Stewart Investors), have influenced legislation, rebates or similar programme funding.
(d) Provide recommendations of where the list of companies provided are most at risk.

(a) An explanation of why such lobbying practices create value for shareholders.
(b) Analysis of donation or disclosure policies.
