ESG Credit Assessment of Asian Banks
Purpose: Stewart Investors would like to identify which Asian banks are leading in terms of the integration of ESG risks into their corporate credit assessment approach.
Identify the leaders and laggards in terms of the integration of ESG risks into credit risk assessment. Please provide evidence and examples, such as how fatalities impact credit scores for resources companies, how carbon sensitivities are priced etc.?
As part of testing outcomes, please identify current sustainability risks within the banks’ loan books in terms of high risk sector exposure (e.g. fossil fuels, power generation, plantations, ship breaking, gambling etc.)
Please throw in other “off-piste” examples of best global practice as you come across them.
Detours to be avoided:
Simply reviewing corporate ESG policies. We are particularly interests in banks’ credit assessment processes and how ESG is being integrated here.
